Best Practices are procedures that are accepted or prescribed as being correct.

Social media platforms set limits designed to ensure maximum performance and to protect the 'user experience' of all users. When you post outside of these limits, you are considered to be "spamming".

This post outlines best practices to follow when setting up your Time Slots and Queues. Follow these guidelines to ensure you don't spam your SM Profiles.

Intervals Between Time Slots

When setting up your time slots, you should be aware of how close your time slots are and set them according to the social profile you are managing. These intervals are what is acceptable by each social media platform and keep you from "spamming" your streams.

For Twitter: minimum of 5 - 7 minutes apart.

For Facebook: minimum of 45 minutes apart.

For LinkedIn: there are no time restrictions placed on LinkedIn profiles. Rather, LinkedIn has a post limit of 25 posts per day. If you post more than 25 posts inside a 24 hour window, LinkedIn will site you for spamming.

Duplicate Posts - Time Windows

When managing posts in your queues, you should be aware of how many posts you have in relation to how many time slots you have assigned. Social media platforms place restrictions on posting the EXACT same post inside set windows. Use the following information to ensure best practices and avoid your posts from being marked as spam.

For Twitter: you cannot add the EXACT same post inside a 3 Day window. If you have 100 posts in your Recurring Queue, only assign 30 Time Slots. This will prevent your queue from cycling back inside the allowed time window.

For Facebook: you cannot add the EXACT same post inside a 7 Day window. If you have 100 posts in your Recurring Queue, only assign 15 Time Slots.

For LinkedIn: you cannot add the EXACT same post inside a 7 Day window. If you have 100 posts in your Recurring Queue, only assign 15 Time Slots.

Re: Scheduled Queue

smqueue does not place any limits on how many posts you can add to your Scheduled Queue. That said, you should still schedule posts with the above time windows in mind, and never schedule the exact same post inside the acceptable time windows.

Rules for Groups & Pages

For Facebook Groups: 2 to 3 posts a day max; spread over 24 hours.

For LinkedIn Company Pages: 2 to 3 posts a day max; spread over 24 hours.

TIP: If you're managing a promotion such as a 24hr sale or giveaway, tweak your post, add an alternate hash tag, or upload a different full size photo so that your posts are not exactly the same. A little finesse goes a long way!
